I see your point, and agree for the most part. I think we do need to
re-evaluate our over-consumption of ANY energy source first, then work
to develop alternate fuels. I do feel we need to free ourselves from
dependence on fossil fuels in general, since they are a rapidly
shrinking commodity.
I can only hope that the "open-source" model will be used with alternate
energy technologies early on, and that we won't need to wait for the
crisis point before the knowledge gets shared. Unfortunately, the
Intellectual Property craze these days will probably mean one company
patents it and makes a fortune by gouging the consumers. C'est la vie.
