I have a question for all you MOQers out there:
Why does it seem that anything done for immediate gratification contradicts
that which is done for ultimate success?
Mark 3-6-04: Hello there, May i have a stab at this one please? I will use
the analogy of a garden to illustrate things.
First of all we begin with Static Quality (SQ) and Dynamic Quality (DQ).
DQ is one.
SQ is many.
SQ grows in response to DQ, like a plant growing in the Sun - one Sun, but
lots of plants.
There are four levels of SQ, Matter, life, society and Intellect. (Or four
types of plants.)
Each Human is like a garden with four varieties of plant all growing at the
same time. The older plants are the shortest (matter and life) - the younger
plants are the tallest (society and intellect) because they are more vigorous.
(Trust me?!)
What you are and what you like depend on which plants your garden is
dominated by. If it is dominated by the short matter and life plants, then your
immediate gratification is for life. If your garden is dominated by life and social
plants, the your immediate gratification is for society and life. You get the
picture?
If your immediate gratification helps your plants grow well, then long term
growth will result in a good garden (ultimate success).
School is largely a matter of nurturing the intellect plants, and unless your
garden is plentiful in these plants immediate gratification is out of the
question. But the pain of cultivation may produce a good garden?
For example; if you decide that you'd rather play video games all day than go
to school, it's more immediately gratifying, but ultimately it's probably a
very unwise decision. Likewise, going to school may not be (and probably is
not) immediately gratifying, although ultimately
it's more than likely a better decision. Any thoughts?
Mark 3-6-04: Well, if you become a game wizard or a game designer, it's going
to harmonise with your immediate gratification? Do what you really want to do
and do it well.
All the best,
Mark
