BTW, the "footnotes" are actually part of a longer summary of US
military inventions since 1945, written by William Blum, a former US
State Department insider who bailed in 1967 as a result of his
opposition to what was bing done in Vietnam.
He has two books, which may be found of interest and use. They are
Killing Hope and Rogue State. A new book out, too, I think, but I've
forgotten the title. Lots of info online, just google him.
