Funny thing. In Pirsig's "Lila-An Inquiry into Morals" I can find no
mention of "compassion." Why do you suppose that is?

I looked up "civilization" in my unabridged dictionary and found nothing
about redistribution of wealth. Then I checked our Constitution and found
nothing there either. Are you suggesting civilization didn't exist before
government welfare programs? Do you find such programs without fault?
Thanks,
Platt
