I can see that... But a sudden perception of harmony can stop you in your
tracks too, when you realize that something about this is saying "yes" to
you very loudly - that is harmony. It can be surprising also. And beauty
can last a long time, like the beauty of nature, and the beauty of justice.
These needn't be brand new, though I agree, to be seen as being beautiful,
they need to be seen afresh, and a beautiful thing can stop you in your
tracks and surprise you over and over again, no matter how many times you
have seen it. Is it always beautiful, or only when it is noticed?
Jonathan Edwards drew a picture demonstrating beauty, which he thought was
all about proportion and symmetry. I'll try to duplicate it here:
