hey mark,
first let me lay my cards on the table:
i think chomsky is invaluable. he is a brave, honest,
accurate and insightful critic of western hegemony.
but i think you see where i was coming from anyway; ie
his SOMness makes it difficult for chomsky to get to
the roots of our troubles, which makes progress more
difficult.
politically speaking, the situationists and may 68
came closest to a Quality breakthrough (interestingly
there is a bertolucci film out now called 'the
dreamers' about may 68, anyone see it?). in the 70s
the sits faded away with many of the central thinkers
moving to zen buddhism.
the sits viewed things from the situation: instead of
subjects experiencing objects, they saw unified
experience (a situation), of which the individual was
an integral part. the sits were not SOM (hence the
inordinate power of their work, i believe).
chomsky is very important in that he increases
awareness of our realpolitikal situation. and in doing
so he increases the desire, the momentum towards
something better. he is therefore complementary to any
work that maps out paths to this better world. the moq
is one of these paths.
so what i guess i am saying is that, yes, i agree :-)
cheers
