Dear Mark H.,
You asked 4 Jul 2004 15:12:06 -0700:
'What ... will offer a higher quality existence for still more people [than
capitalism and socialism]?'
and added:
'The answer ... [:] a good Hegelian resolution to this tension, or ... the
"sweet spot," the confluence of two old ... value patterns with the new
DQ-inspired idea that will make them obsolete.' and
'"What can we do to facilitate the discovery of the sweet spot?" One answer
... is to encourage, not impede, the free flow and interaction of IDEAS.'
As I stated 6 Jul 2004 14:35:19 +0200:
'THE coherent combination or THE sweet spot ... doesn't exist. Pretending it
does (e.g. by naming it 'freedom and quality') implies making DQ (emergent
5th level patterns of value) subservient to 4th level symbolism.'
Free flowing and interaction of ideas will certainly offer a higher quality
existence for a lot of people.
In my thinking (see www.antenna.nl/wim.nusselder/schrijfsels/economics.htm)
socialist practice is dominated by 2nd type (enforcement-based) social
patterns of value and capitalist practice by 3rd type (economic dependence
based) social patterns of value. They have their value as next step in
situations that are dominated by 1st (race/age/lineage etc. based) and lower
quality 2nd type respectively 2nd and lower quality 3rd type social patterns
of value. From 3rd type social patterns of value we need to move on to 4th
type (convincement based) social patterns of value. Voluntary choice after
convincement for socialist solutions belongs there. And beyond 4th type
social patterns of value? Maybe social patterns based on the skills that can
be developed of empathy and higher consciousness?
With friendly greetings,
Wim
