In a way you could look at the restriction of individual freedom as
the very "sin" of slavery and that only WITH individual freedom do
we have greater freedom. An old professor of mine once pointed
out that we have not restricted personal freedom with most laws,
we've instead said that there is a price to be paid if you wish to
exercise some of those freedoms. If you voluntarily only exercise
those freedoms we all agree are good, you don't need to go to
jail. (may be different with the Patriot Act, now.)
