<< Of course ! William James and most of his colleages were Lamarckians.
As being an American, James and most of his countrymen, did accept a
form of evolution, even it was Lamarckian. However, James would work
to fight Darwin 's conception of man as an evolutionary development.
James was one of the Harvard men, they wanted to reconcile science
with religion. They all bend before Lamarckism because it had a greater
congruence with religion. ( The first Americans were Puritians)

Now still today, Americans never accepted Darwinism and still reject it !
