Why is eveyone so anxious to compare memes with patterns of value? The
nutty Darwinists and their ilk are reductive anti-quality rationalists of
the highest order. Memes can go hang. They are just a way of pretending
that evolutionary theory has something useful to say about the history of
ideas, like they pretend that it has something useful to say on every topic
under the sun. These days they pretend that evolution is the only subject
there is: evolutionary psychology, evolutionary sociology, evolutionary
theology, evolutionary cosmology: if it ain't evolutionary it ain't real.
Can't a man have a rest from this rubbish? Talk of 'memes' is just
collaborating with no-brain monomainiacs who think that saying "beleifs that
aren't beleived die out" is an interesting scientific observation with
profound epistemological ramifications. Get real. And please find a less
annoying word. (I'm annoyed because I thought Prisig understood about
science being one part of technology: techne, not episteme. This making a
religion out of evolution makes a lot less sense to me than a religion of
motorcycles.)
(I'm so sorry, I think I lost it. Must be the genes. It's either them, or
all those memes I've aquired by watching TV. Yeah, Right.)
