    Hi DMB,
It took me awhile because I reread it about 20x.
It really is an interesting passage.
There was something I was trying to figure out about
it but couldn't seem to get the idea into words.
It was something about the 'window peaking' of
the Zuni. I have been playing around in my mind about
the leap of the biological to the social levels.
I think its kind of glossed over too much because it is
here that we go from the objective to the subjective.
That's huge, not just a step in the stairway.
So in my mind this week I have been playing with the
idea of that being the "window" but don't have the
    idea really clear.
I brought it up because you seemed to have said something
that seems related if I am not misinterpreting to you.

    "Throughout 500,000 years of human
history each person has experienced a certain tension between him or herself
and rest of the clan, a tension between the animal and social selves."

That tension is where the 'window' is.. I could see it from
both ways too. Lila is peaking through the window one way
and Pheadrus is peaking through the window the other way.

And Alice is looking through it..kidding, kidding
