My question is, does apocalypse mean static death or Dynamic disintegration?
I suppose this could be applied at a personal level also, as a death wish of
sorts?
Steve said:
Apocylpse means revelation or unveiling. It is an idea that assumes a dual
reality that includes the material world of experience and a spiritual world
that is kept hidden and to be revealed at a later time.
dmb says:
I think Dynamic disintegration is a good phrase, but maybe not for the
reasons you might suspect. Steve's definition gets at it. The apocalypse is
the time when secret spiritual realites are revealed. As I understand it,
these apocalyptic visions describes a personal transformation not an
historical event. It describes the dissolution of YOUR world, not THE world.
Its about transcendence, where everything old is new again.
P.S. Steve, this is one of the most essential aspects of the hero's journey.
He undergoes a personal transformation(s) on the journey and then returns to
renew the world, save the world, restore order or some such utopian vision.
This kind of hero is the opposite of those who seek fame and fortune. The
temptations of Christ spring to mind as the prime example. The Buddha gave
it all up too.
