Well, I see the western philosophical tradition as offering only
essentialist accounts, up to WiIliam of Ockham, at least, but I don't see
Jesus as a philosopher at all. I don't really know Eckhart's philosophical
style, though now that you bring it up, I'm curious. I suspect, though, that
I am misunderstanding your question.

I see Barfield as offering different thinking on the Fall and Redemption, or
one might say, his redescription is the first that I've seen that makes me
take it seriously. (I should point out that this 'redescription' is Rudolf
Steiner's. Barfield, though, is invaluable for putting historical meat on
it, and is a much better writer.). What makes it interesting to this forum,
IMO, is that one sees how the the rise of intellect is both a continuance of
the Fall, but also the beginning of Redemption.
