Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your post. I'm glad you didn't take mine personally, just
as I'm sad that Dan, apparently, has.
I agree about Pilger. He's a remarkable journalist who is rarely
mentioned here in the States, and when he is, is painted negatively,
as would be expected. I understand his presence is somewhat larger
in England, though if recent articles from the Davids at MediaLens
are any indication, his importance is heavily downplayed there as
well.
Anyway, congrats on completing your thesis; I've found it very
helpful in my study of the MOQ. It will be interesting to see if it
becomes Pirsig's foot-in-the-door to Academia. Can a grad seminar in
the Metaphysics of Quality be far behind?
Best,
Mark Steven Heyman (msh)

In fact I think most charitable giving is superficial and is a waste of time and resources in dealing with the underlying long-term issues of poverty, unemployment, disease and ignorance - that ultimately, what is required are fundamental and radical changes to global government and business policies that contribute to these problems. That is why everyone on this List, for instance, should read writers such as Noam Chomsky and John Pilger - carefully and with an open mind. However, on this rare occasion - due to the scale of the disaster - I thought it merited a more immediate, practical response. Best wishes, Anthony.
