    to. Pretty lewd stuff I seem to recall.

    Seriously though, we also tend to forget that Pirsig was schizophrenic
    and held quite contradictory and inconsistent views about these
    things. Hippies were breaking the mould and veering towards anarchy
    and "anti-establishment" immoratlity as their reason for existence -
    Pirsig was plotting a credible way out the other side, so naturally he
    dissciated himslef from hippie excesses, despite being a hippie at
    heart. You have to break eggs to make omlettes. Hippes were breaking
    eggs, Pirsig was creating a recipe. Both essential.
