Incidentally "These can be left alone for a while." is in
fact exactly
my appeal to stop debating the big global poiltical issues,
and
concentrate on the core.
Well Ian, when those words were written, was over thirty years
ago. A lot has happened since. Things have been left alone
a long, long while. Don't you think it's possible to
attach so much static value to a quote that it becomes meaningless ?
The future is always somewhere else down the path.
I would argue that global events seem to be of an urgent enough
nature to require some quality attention. I mean we have a clash
of values of the most extreme order on our hands with oscillating
anger headed for more violence and destruction.
Mr. Pirsig is talking in this quote about a personal
feeling he had which was a reflection of where he was standing at the
time. And it makes a lot of sense when you consider the radical
ideas flowing chaotically out of the 60's to not push any more
programs at people. But whether or not he personally feels
that way now, I personally feel that the world needs us.
