So there are three static levels, and they can be classified by intellect,
but intellect cannot classify itself, and persists in DQ/SQ contradictory
    identity. Sounds good.

    Scott:
There are still four static levels, since intellect produces SQ that is
purely intellectual, notably mathematics, and one could say similar things
about art and philosophy. For that matter, science is also intellectual SQ,
though it is about other levels of SQ. However, in all these cases, the MOQ
mistake is to ignore the activity that produces this intellectual SQ. That
activity is intellect, which manipulates, evaluates, and creates symbolic
SQ. So it is DQ. If one just sees intellect as the manipulation of symbolic
SQ according to, say, logical patterns, then one could call those patterns
SQ as well. To that extent, intellect is purely mechanical. But, of course,
if it was only that, there would never be anything new. Because intellect is
evaluative, it can detect itself as being in a mechanical rut, and jump out
of the particular system it has been operating in, and create a new system.

I've just ordered magliola. I want to dig more into your understanding of
    intellect.

    Scott:
For that you would also need Barfield, but Magliola showed me how intellect
could be an aid in dealing with things mystical -- how to answer the
Pirsigian conflict between mystics and metaphysics. I'll be interested in
your reaction to how he treats the mystery of the Trinity.
