DMB quotes Pirsig:
"In this manner biological man is exploited and devoured by social patterns
that are essentially hostile to his biological values."
Oh, great. This explains why biological man lived so much longer and better
before the social codes devoured him. I can't identify one biological value
that social patterns are hostile to. Pirsig claims sex and gambling and
drinking, but I have a hard time imagining that these things were more
prevalent or at all enjoyable before social codes came along. I personally
would have a lot less sex if I had to avoid being clubbed by my rivals. The
only biological things social values are hostile to are things we don't
like, right? Are those values?
