Hi Johnny Moral,
I've only begun reading Wilber so I don't have great answers for you. I
picked up Sex, Ecology, Spirituality because DMB has raved about Wilber. So
far I am really enjoying the book. I think it does give more detail to an
MOQ understanding as DMB says, but it will take some digesting to know for
sure.
> What does Wilbur say about individual conciousness?
I haven't read too much, yet.
So far he has talked briefly about awareness on different levels.
I'm sure he has a lot to say about consciousness. Apparently his first book
was about consciousness and he is hailed as the "Einstein of consciousness"
by some.
I know he extends the idea to all levels. He sees plants and dogs and cells
and rocks as conscious though not as conscious as humans of course.
"A deer for example will register and respond not only to physical forces
that continue to impact it [as everything on the inorganic level does], but
also to a whole range of biological forces, from hunger to pain to sexual
drive, that simply make no impression on its constituent atoms. To the
individual atom, these new forces are "otherworldly"--literally out of this
world, or not in *its* world." SES p66
Likewise, humans are aware of things that deer are completely oblivious to
such as music and art.
I suppose some humans are aware of things that are "otherworldly" to other
humans as well.
>When i see the word
> "individual", I think of a person, with a will and self-identity. Are we
> holons, if there is no such thing as an individual? What are we a part of,
> and what parts are our individual selves composed of?
I'll have to get back to you.
>What else is in that
> book? The title sounds intriguing. Does it have pictures?
It has some diagrams.
Regards,
Steve
