    Hi Scott,

: Fair. My only objection to your eudaimonic thesis is that it takes what I
: see as an overly narrow view of intellect. To me, 4th level art, for
: example, is a variety of intellect, one that uses a different medium than
: discursive prose. Hence, I see no problem with calling the 4th level the
: intellectual level or as the level of the autonomous individual, since by my
: definition, they are one and the same.

That's fair enough; I think that's close to Wim's perspective too (no doubt he'll say when he gets
the chance after his hols). My worry is that 'manipulation of symbols' etc, ie Pirsig's descriptions
of intellect, plus the history of SOM, especially in the last few hundred years, tends towards the
narrow definition of intellect. If you move away from that, with a fuller understanding of what
'intellect' is (eg Augustine's 'memory, reason, will') then I don't have a problem. I suspect
hanging on to 'intellect' might lead to some confusions though, given where we are culturally. "I
don't mean *that* sort of intellect!" trotted out every other post...

: By the way, what do you think of "value fulfillment" as a translation of
    : 'eudaimonia'?

That's an interesting take. I certainly see 'eudaimonia' as meaning 'response to Quality' or
'enabling Quality', so 'Quality fulfilment' would be fine, and as Quality and value are synonyms in
the MoQ, that all hangs together.
