    Hi Paul,

I think this is a good insight.

Wilber describes the universe as comprised as holons which are whole/parts.
When he uses that term "holon," "pattern of value" seems to fit as well.
    Patterns within patterns within patterns.

When a new pattern of value is formed it is a coalescence of lower level
patterns of value. The new pattern of value transcends and includes the
patterns that comprise it and is differentiated from the lower level
patterns that comprise it. (A society is differentiated from the biological
entities that comprise it. You could know everything there is to know about
these biological entities while knowing little about the society that is
formed by their coalescence. A society is "made of" the biological
patterns, but it is more than a bunch of biological patterns. The pattern
of society includes biological patterns in its embrace (which include
inorganic patterns), but also transcends biological patterns. Scientists
often make the mistake of thinking the whole can be understood merely in
terms if its parts. The MOQ rejects this idea.)

If we think of the Quality Event as the formation of a new pattern of value,
then as you say, it is "at once a coalescence and a differentiation."

Wilber describes each pattern as having the aspects of agency and communion.
Agency refers to the pattern existing as a "thing" in itself. Communion
refers to the pattern existing in relation to other patterns that comprise a
greater whole (a higher level pattern.)

Wim refers to patterns of value having aspects of stability and versatility.

    Coalescence/differentiation
    Stability/versatility
    Communion/agency
    Static/dynamic?

I think all these terms may be useful in thinking about the harmony of
    static and dynamic quality.

    Regards,
    Steve
