    Dear Mark,

    You wrote 13 Dec 2003 20:19:16 EST:
'I have no problem at all with Bo creating his own intellectual art. I hope
you have no problem with me appreciating Robert Pirsig's art?
My concern is with students visiting this site in order to explore Robert
    Pirsig's work.'

    My question was:
'Is it THE MoQ we are discussing [on this list] (i.e. as meant by Pirsig) or
are we (should we be) discussing the merits of our various versions [on this
list] (with Pirsig's writings expressing only one or even a version that
    develops in time)?'

In my experience we are and should be discussing different versions of the
MoQ on this list (including Bo's version). If visitors are actually getting
confused we can ask Horse to make that more clear on the website or even in
the footer we get with the (required) text-only e-mails. (By the way: yours
have a rich text format and don't get this footer). In addition to that (and
much more difficult, it seems) we could all try distinguish in our way of
writing about the MoQ the different versions and 'THE' MoQ, which is a
pattern to be discerned in all those versions together. Discussing whether a
specific version deviates too much to still be recognizable as part of the
pattern is always possible of course ... ON the list. As long as the
adherents consider their version a part of the pattern (or even if they
don't but would like to discuss with others the pro's and con's of their
version compared to MoQ versions) they shouldn't be told to leave.

Do you agree that this discussion list is meant NOT to explore/discuss only
Robert Pirsig's work, BUT to explore/discuss 'the MoQ', which is a pattern
(migrating towards DQ) in the work of all the contributors to the list and
not a rigid set of ideas determining who 'belongs' and who doesn't.

    With friendly greetings,

    Wim
