Wish I had more time for a detailed response ... This is important stuff
    Mark.
(Part of my own knowledge modelling agenda based on MoQ.)

It's all about change and change ranges from gradual to chaotic. AI / AL /
Living Systems Simulation / Cybernetics has got closest amongst the sciences
to appreciating the evolutionary nature of change (and learning), and the
emergence of "levels." The idea of "sweet spots" where there is coherence
between change events and environmental "opportunity. Coherence emergent from
Chaos, not imposed by external rationale - the tension of SQ and DQ as you
    put it.

The balance between coherence and chaos is the key.
Major subject in relating quantum scale "random chance" to ordered real-life
scale events - even biological and mental.
You may think I digress - but I'm not so sure.

    Important subject matter this.
    All the best,
    Ian Glendinning

    Hi Ian,
Thank you very much. I don't think you are digressing, i think you are spot
    on.
If you recommend some accessible reading i shall get to it over the next few
weeks? I'm willing to have a stab at more difficult stuff if i have to.

    Just one small point:
"Coherence emergent from Chaos, not imposed by external rationale - the
tension of SQ and DQ as you put it."
This is better put as: "Coherence emergent from Chaos, not imposed by
external rationale - the SQ-SQ tension as you put it."
SQ-SQ tension is the same as Coherence - the more 'sweet' the tension is, the
higher the coherence. Initially, i made the mistake of wishing to say SQ-DQ
tension, but Ant McWatt pointed out to me that this is trying to get DQ out of
DQ, when we need to get DQ out of exceptional relationships (or into)? I
    immediately saw he was correct.

    Many thanks Ian,
    All the best,
    Mark

P.S. Good luck with your work in knowledge modelling.
