    Dear Johnny,

    You wrote 18 Jun 2004 19:11:24 +0000:
'If the will can be changed so pr[of]oundly by diet, how free is it? And can
I just choose to move to a lacto-vegetarian diet? I have tried to a couple
times, but somehow processed foods and salt keep showing up on my plate.'

We are free to the extent that we follow DQ or (from a lower level
perspective) participate in higher level patterns of value.
    I became lacto-vegetarian when I was 16 and started participating in 4th
level patterns of value critical of the social status quo. My
parents -critical of the social status quo themselves- allowed the
exceptions to our family habits (although my mother, who did the cooking,
    wasn't particularly enthusiastic).
At 18 I moved to a macro-biotic diet when I moved out to study at the Vrije
Universiteit in Amsterdam. Living alone I could leave behind my family's
    dietary habits completely then.
My macro-biotic diet has gradually eroded when I started living together
with my (now) wife, who is not vegetarian.

Look at your 3rd level patterns of value (habits) if you want to understand
how processed foods and salt appear on your plate...

    With friendly greetings,

    Wim
