    I take your point. But I do feel that we could
    have a more intellectually dynamic culture/society
    in the context of more equality. Democracy
    also has its old hat problems, if our fuel consumption is
    overheating the world (? lets assume it is for arguments sake), could a
    democracy ever put the
    interests of the future over short term interests?
    I think it might be interesting, although also very dangerous/terrible
    if the whole financial structure of capitalism fell over.
    Imagine, given our current state of technical knowledge,
    having to focus on just delivering the basics to keep society going,
    it might be a revelation how little work and how few people that
    now took! Perhaps then we would discover that time is a richer resource
    that having money, goods, statuc, etc and no time!
