    Hi Mark

Yes lots of people think of evolution in terms of
    struggle but is this adequate?

    Mark:
Hi David, No, it's not adequate. It's an empirical
observation though which i think you would agree with?
So, if we have this empirical observation how can we
talk about Harmony in spite of the struggle? That's my
point. The thing is, we experience harmony too, so we
have to accommodate both within the Value
    evolution/Universal flux paradigm.

    DM:
I think more in terms of the vast sea
of the possible, or variety as Darwin calls it in
    relation
to evolution, the miracle of evolution is that from
    the vast
possibilities that exist something of value is
    created,
quality is chosen over dead ends, levels are created
and transcended, the molecule that can transport
    oxygen
is selected over that which cannot, millions of cells
    are able
to work together to produce the higher level reality
    of
    the multi-cellular organism.

    Mark:
The vast sea of possibility is basically DQ isn't it?
The complex works and works damn well, and i am
fascinated how it maintains itself with such exact
fidelity over millions of years and does not fall
    apart.
It is within this context that i am thinking about
cybernetics. I think patterns evolve cybernetically
    around DQ.

    DM:
    To flux and disorder, DQ
brings order. Selection via struggle is possible only
    after
that which is good is already present to choose
    between.

    DM

    Mark:
I think you've latched onto struggle a bit too strong
here David. I in no way mean survival of the fittest
here, it's an observed fact of life that there is
allot of friction going on. That's all i'm saying.
And yet, in spite of the friction, things get better,
and it may be because friction is part of a cybernetic
process - a downside of it. The upside is that
cybernetic probing into the unknown, the vast sea of
    possibilities you describe, works!

    Mark
