Hi Rebecca
I can assure you it is alot of trouble,
people are very uneasy about people
who donot see things the way they do.
I assume your answer to my question is: not for me.
Do you find that people value your unusual ideas and behaviour?
Philosophers self-important? Some yes, some no, many
very confused.

Hey David and Ant (and all),
Being yourself shouldn't be troublesome but the most natural thing in the world. I think doing philosophy forces a person to be unique. If you're not constantly questioning, stretching the limits of your mind and straining to make some sense of the universe then you're not doing philosophy - you're practising dogmatic religion.
Do you think the reason philosophers are so self important is because they understand the importance of the self?
Carrying the torch...
