Hello Steve,
All,
In a recent post I said:
"Rather than use the distinction of subjects and objects as the primary
division that enables understanding of reality, Pirsig's second major
insight was to divide reality into a creative aspect (dynamic quality) and a
self-sustaining aspect (static quality). In ZAMM he explained how the
Quality event produces subjects and objects. In Lila, he explained that it
is more useful to think of the Quality Event as Dynamic Quality leaving
static patterns of value in its wake which can latch or not onto other
static patterns of value."
Is this a good interpretation of how the Quality Event would be redefined in
Lila?
How is ZAMM's Quality event and Quality=Experience reconciled with Lila's
static/dynamic split?
Thanks,
Steve
This is the position Bo had problems with.
Bo felt he answered it so maybe you should ask him?
However, it may be more useful to reflect that subjects and objects are the
product of a Classic/Romantic split - which is in itself a western
development. Therefore, from a western viewpoint, Quality produces SoM.
That SoM exists cannot be ignored. Therefore, it must be integrated into a
better description of structured thought. The MoQ does this by describing SoM
as an intellectual pattern of value. The MoQ is then a better intellectual
pattern of value which is an evolutionary replacement for SoM.
The MoQ does not reintroduce the Classic/Romantic - Subject/Object divide.
Rather, C/R - SoM are Intellectual patterns of value.
Your description of DQ as a 'creative aspect' is misleading.
