Rationality is a type of intellect. Why not see intellect as manipulation
of symbols as Pirsig says and see that the first purpose of all that
manipulation was to create rationales for behavior? Rationales may be
reasonable or not by whatever standards we have, but the test of reason
creates only a subset of all intellectual patterns.
