    From your example of the rusted bike, it seems that 'essence' could be a
    synonym for 'quality'. The closer an object is to its 'essence' the more
    quality it has? Is that what you mean?

    What I mean by 'soul' is underlying essence.

    If I have you right, your idea sounds a bit like Plato's parable of the
    cave. The true or ideal object is off somewhere and what we see here on this
    corrupted earth are objects that are not up to standard.

    That's for your help that your question gave me.
